Affiliate Marketing: How to Choose a Niche!

Firstly we need to understand what a niche is…
In simple terms a niche is a group of people looking for something!
Broad Niches might be:
or any number of things that people search for every day.
As I said the above mentioned niches are very Broad, you will not be successful as an affiliate marketing if you go into the Pet Niche, it is simply too BROAD.
You need to dig down into that niche to find something more specific, specifically that a relatively small group of people are looking for,
You might devote a website to …. dog collars for chihuahuas
The reason that you do not want to use, for example PETS as a niche is because it is so Broad a search term you will have too much competition, in other words there will be too many other websites with that search term already listed in Google’s Index.
Don’t Choose a Broad Niche!
Yep, you read that right, there are 650 Million websites with the term Pets, and some of them have nothing to do with animals.
Moral of the story, start to dig down into a broad niche to find your sub-niche that you can dominate!
Another important consideration when choosing your first niche especially, is to choose something that you have knowledge about and that you would enjoy writing about. An alternative is to pick something that you would enjoy learning about, and then you can grow into it with your audience.
Remember that your audience is that group of people who will be coming to your website looking for information and potentially buying a product or service based on your recommendations. You should not see them simply as traffic from which you can earn money!
As an affiliate marketer, your first niche may well not be your last or your most productive or profitable, but you will learn the skills you need to become successful in almost any niche that you choose to take on.
But start with something that you know!
So to Summarize:
- A niche is a group of people searching for something… to solve a problem or fulfill a need.
- As an affiliate marketer you must steer clear of Broad Niches, such as Cars or Pets, and dig down in to the niche to find smaller sub-niche which will be easier to dominate.
- Start with something that you know!
- Treat your audience as people who you are trying to help, not as traffic that you are merely making money from! You will have greater success that way!
- Build and expand as you learn more.
Choosing a Niche for your first website can be a daunting task! Don’t let it!
Just take some time to think about what you enjoy doing or are knowledgeable about and start with that.
